Plaza de Cibeles
Plaza de Cibeles · 7 min walk
The Plaza de Cibeles is a neo-classical complex of marble sculptures with fountains, a defining symbol of Madrid. It sits at the intersection of Calle de Alcalá, Paseo de Recoletos, and Paseo del Prado, originally named Plaza de Madrid before being renamed.
Look for the fountain's centerpiece: the goddess Cibeles in a chariot pulled by lions. The square is best seen from the surrounding sidewalks; visit in late afternoon for the best light on the white marble.
