Barri Gòtic

The Gothic Quarter is the historic heart of Barcelona, a maze of narrow lanes that once formed the entire city. It stretches from La Rambla to Via Laietana, and from the Mediterranean seafront to the Ronda de Sant Pere.

Look for remnants of the Roman city beneath the medieval buildings—some walls still stand. Wander into the small squares like Plaça del Rei for a glimpse of the past. Best explored late afternoon when the light slants through the alleys.
