Plaza de España
Plaza de España · 22 min walk
A large square at the western end of Gran Vía, reopened to pedestrians in November 2021 after 2.5 years of renovation. It is a popular gathering spot, featuring a monument to Miguel de Cervantes and framed by two of Madrid's tallest skyscrapers.
Look for the bronze statues of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza at the base of the Cervantes monument. Then walk south for five minutes to reach the Palacio Real. The square is best explored on foot, as it is now entirely pedestrianized.
