Spain's national museum of 20th-century art, sitting at the south end of Madrid's Golden Triangle of Art, near Atocha station. It opened in 1992 and is named for Queen Sofía.
The star piece is Picasso's Guernica, an enormous canvas condemning the bombing of a Basque town. Stand back on the fourth floor to take in the full impact of the black-and-white composition.
