Estación de Atocha

Estación de Atocha

Plaza del Emperador Carlos V · 24 min walk

Madrid Atocha is the oldest major railway station in Madrid, inaugurated in 1851 and rebuilt in the late 20th century with a grand iron-and-glass structure. It serves as a hub for high-speed AVE trains as well as commuter and regional services.

Inside the main hall, a vast tropical garden with over 7,000 plants and a pond filled with turtles offers a surprising oasis. Take a moment to sit near the pond and watch the turtles—they've been there since the garden opened in 1992.
