Catedral de la Almudena
Calle de Bailén · 28 min walk
Madrid's Catholic cathedral took over a century to build, from 1883 to 1993, when Pope John Paul II consecrated it. It sits opposite the Royal Palace, forming a grand ecclesiastical complex.
Look up: the dome's interior is covered with modernist stained glass by artists like Guillermo Pérez Villalta. For the best photo of the facade, cross to the Royal Palace gardens.
