Barceloneta Beach

La Barceloneta is a neighborhood built in the 18th century to house residents displaced by the Ciutadella fortress. Its beach is the city's most popular, a broad arc of imported sand fronting the Mediterranean.

Look north for the sail-shaped W Hotel, a landmark since 2009. Walk the wooden boardwalk to the end for a view of the Port Olímpic marina. Best in late afternoon when the shadows stretch and the water glows.
