Arc de Triomf

Arc de Triomf

Passeig de Lluís Companys

The Arc de Triomf was raised as the main access gate for the 1888 Barcelona World Fair, designed by architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas in a striking neo-Mudéjar style. It spans the broad promenade of Passeig de Lluís Companys, leading into the Ciutadella Park.

Look up at the sculpted frieze on the front, showing Barcelona welcoming the nations. For the classic view, stand at the far end of the promenade facing the arch. Best visited in late afternoon light, when the brick glows warm.
